The Man In Black

"How well I have learned that there is no fence to sit on between
heaven and hell. There is a deep, wide gulf, a chasm,
and in that chasm is no place for any man."

1932-2003
Musician Johnny Cash celebrates a birthday today.
The loss of this legend's distinctive voice and talent is still immeasurable.

"You build on failure. You use it as a stepping stone.
Close the door on the past. You don't try to forget the mistakes, but you don't dwell on it.
You don't let it have any of your energy, or any of your time, or any of your space."

I'm A Negative Creep

Gifted and troubled musician Kurt Cobain was born on this day in 1967.
He would of course take his own life in 1994 at the age of 27.
What a shame to lose such a unique voice and talent.

A Diamond Is A Hard Rock

It was on this day in 2004 that "Dimebag" Darrell from Pantera and Damageplan
was shot and killed, along with three others, while performing in Ohio.
Unlock the door and pass the cemetery gates. RIP

Happy Birthday, Lux

Erick Lee Purkhiser, better known as Lux Interior, along with wife
Kristy Wallace (aka Poison Ivy) would form garage rockabilly heroes The Cramps in 1973 and
soon become part of the flourishing New York punk scene of the time.  Sadly the music would end
in February of 2009 when Lux would unexpectedly die due to heart irregularities.
He was born on this day in 1946.

Happy Birthday, Stevie Ray

"Some of us can be examples about going ahead and growing, and some of us, unfortunately,
don't make it there and end up being examples because they had to die.
I hit rock bottom, but thank God my bottom wasn't death."
                                                                                                     - Stevie on getting sober

The incredibly gifted singer, songwriter and guitarist unfortunately would lose his life in
August 1990 when an unqualified helicopter pilot flew into dense fog and crashed into a hillside.
Such a tragic loss.  Vaughan was born on this day in 1954.

Happy Birthday, Moon The Loon

"My friends call me Keith, but you can call me John"

On this day in 1946 legendary The Who drummer and A-class eccentric
Keith John Moon was brought onto this stage called life.
An accidental sedative overdose in September of 1978 would usher his abrupt exit.

"I told people I was a drummer before I even had a set, I was a mental drummer."

"I'm still the best Keith Moon-style drummer in the world."

Indeed...
